Ayoyi is a former right-winger who could also play as centre-forward and attacking midfielder, according to some sources. He started his career in 1980, or possibly earlier, at Scarlet FC where he played at least until 1987. After leaving Scarlet, he transferred to Bandari FC where he played for the rest of his career, possibly until 1990. He represented Kenya from 1980 to 1988 or 1990, scoring 15 goals in at least 53 caps, making his debut on December 7, 1980 against Zambia and participating to the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations.
A dependable for both club and national team, Ayoyi was complete and had everything a winger or a striker needs. He was gifted with a good physique, tall and muscular, and other than the height, he had pace, power and really good technique. In fact, he was nicknamed "Golden Boy" for being an outstanding right-winger with dribbling, amazing speed and shots packed with power. Moreover, he was renowned for his aerial and heading abilities which were widely celebrated by fans: famous is his diving header against Tunisia at the 1987 All-Africa Games. What might be even more important is the fact that he seeminly scored especially when it mattered the most.
As a player who seemingly performed with solid consistently, Ayoyi had a bad performance during a match for Kenya where he was fielded in an unfamiliar position, likely left-winger. The bad day was especially marked by a back pass that he tried from the halfway to his goalkeeper and that led to an opponent intercepting the ball and eventually scoring.
