INFONicknamed "Snowy" for his hair colour, Dunne was a centre forward, considered one of the finest ever Irish players, with a goalscoring record at the highest level of football that no other Irish man managed to beat. He played mostly for Sheffield United, scoring 167 goals in 190 matches from 1926 to 1934. He played also for New Brighton, Arsenal, Southampton and Shamrock Rovers, being incredibly prolific and consistent wherever he's been. He won 22 caps for Ireland and scored 17 goals.
Dunne was a striker renowned for his incredible scoring rate and for his headers. His heading ability was so great that a coaching film about it was produced. In fact, he was considered one of the most outstanding forwards when the ball was in the air and many of the goals he scored came from headers. He even scored a hat-trick using the head against Portsmouth in 1930. Occasionally he was used as inside-forward.
