INFO:
Mewalal was a right inside, turned into a centre forward due to his bulky physique that fit better in that position. He played for several clubs in India throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He had his best time at Eastern Railway Club from 1948 to 1955. He capped for India since 1948 and was part of the 1952 Olympics squad. Possibly the most prolific Indian centre forward, he scored around 200 goals in all national competitions. Although, it's reported that considering also unofficial games, he scored 1032 goals including 32 hat-tricks.
Distinguished for his incredible agility as well as excellent fitness and acrobatic skills, Mewalal was a talented striker who could score in spectacular ways such as rabona or bicycle kicks − he's considered a pioneer of these shooting styles in India − and was a master of shooting on the run. He was a goal poacher, gifted with positional sense and instinct, while his shooting technique was equally effective with both feet. He didn't have an imposing physique nor was effective in the air but he still was fearless. During the 1948 Olympics, his great performance almost led India to defeat France: the match ended 2-1 for les Bleus with Mewalal giving the assist for India's only goal and winning two penalties, unfortunately missed. Three years later though he led India to win the Asian Games, becoming the top scorer of the tournament with 3 goals, having another great performance in the final against the intimidating and physically stronger Iran.
