INFO:
Massei is a former inside forward. His career started in 1951 at Rosario Central. During his time in Argentina, he had the chance to play for the Albiceleste but he refused because he wanted to represent Italy. After 80 matches and 44 goals, he transferred to Inter in 1955, playing 47 matches and scored 19 goals in three seasons. After earning a call-up for Italy, he needed to play three games with the U-21 to be eligible for the main team. Unfortunately, he suffered a bad knee injury that forced him out for a season. Inter eventually sold him to Triestina. After only one season in Friuli, he signed for Spal where he found new life. Massei made 244 appearances and scored 52 goals for Spal from 1959 to 1968, playing a major role in the team's historic 1959-60 Serie A 5th place and the 1961-62 Coppa Italia final. He was also the team captain for five seasons.
Arguably one of the best and most underrated foreign players in Serie A history, Massei was nicknamed Pachorra and Fatiga for being a slow player, but he was distinguished for his excellent technique, great vision and scoring ability. His shots, despite lacking power, were dangerous due to the huge effect that Massei could give the ball. He was also a good header. When playing for Spal, he was like a coach in the field, a teamworker and coordinator who gave rhythm and provided numerous passes with his geometries while his teammates moved around him like he was an orchestra director. He hardly had a bad performance, playing always at high level and showing great mentality. However, the player himself once said during an interview that he used to play with minimum effort after the injury. Therefore, if what he said was true, what would've been able to do hadn't he suffer that injury? Spal main penalty taker, he holds the club's record for most penalties scored with 15.
