Bobby Robson was an inside forward, central midfielder and wing-half. His career began in 1950 at Fulham, playing 157 matches in six seasons, scoring 69 goals. He left in 1956 to join West Bromwich Albion, where he made 257 apperances and scored 61 goals in six years. He returned to Fulham in 1962, playing 213 games throughout five seasons, scoring 11 goals. He rarely missed a game, playing between an average 40 games per league season from 1956 and 1962, except the 1958-59 in which he played 29 matches. He retired in 1967. He capped for England 20 times, scoring 4 goals.
An excellent inside forward in his early years, Robson formed at Fulham a fantastic trio alongside Bedford Jezzard and Johnny Haynes in the first half of the 1950s. Robson was a strong and solid midfielder with an eye for goal. He was accurate with both feet, good from long range and very able first-time. Not only he could score but he was also capable of creating scoring chances thanks to his accurate and fast passes. Since the 1958-59 season, his position was turned into wing-half, which he had until the end of his career. In this role, he showed good defensive skill, tackling and timing, blocking the opposition's offensive plays and then keeping the attack of his team alive with his very good passes from the back.
