INFO:Francken was a centre forward who could play also as left-inside and left winger, even though he began his career as goalkeeper − probably before turning 18, when he started playing for both Haarlem first team and Netherlands. Arguably the best ever Haarlem player, he spent his entire career in the team from 1905 to 1915, winning the 1911-12 KNVB Beker. He became Netherlands top scorer in 1913 with 17 goals in 22 matches before his record was beaten by Beb Bakhuys in 1935.
When Francken was a goalkeeper he was excellent in that position, making a name for himself as penalty stopper. Then his position changed to striker and he became a great scorer. Francken had a sensational ball control but also enough skill and speed to be able to take the ball in his own defence and run towards the opposing goal with the ball on his feet. He made the crowds cheer thanks to his goals from impossible positions. He used to play intuitively but had one problem: his passes were not really accurate but always too short or too long.
