INFO:Aaron Hughes is a former centre-back and side-back. His career began in 1997 at Newcastle United, where he played 278 matches and scored 7 goals, leaving the team in 2005. Even though his main position was in the middle of the defence, he often played as right-back and left-back for the "Magpies". After two seasons at Aston Villa from 2005 and 2007, he transferred to Fulham where he mostly played as centre-back, making 250 appearances and scoring 3 goals from 2007 and 2014. He then played for Queens Park Rangers, Brighton & Hove Albion, Melbourne City, Kerala Blasters and Heart of Midlothian, retiring in 2019. He capped for Norther Ireland 112 times.
Hughes was a versatile defender, known for his exceptional fair play as he never received a red card and rarely a yellow card. Throughout his career, he showed good strength and interception, decent long passing skill, game reading ability in defence. He sometimes was helpful also in the attack when he deployed on the flank. However, he wasn't notably fast nor too good in the air. A more experienced player at Fulham, he formed there a very good pair of central defenders with Brede Hangeland.
