Whymark was a centre forward remembered for the time he spent in Ipswich Town from 1969 to 1979. He scored 87 goals in 282 matches for the "Blues". He played also for several other clubs including Sparta Rotterdam and Derby County. He capped once for England in 1977, coming in as substitute. He retired in 1985.
Whymark wasn't the typical centre forward who stayed stuck in the box. He sometimes moved back, acting like a secondary striker and he even used to track back to his own penalty area to help the defence. He was very good and accurate with both feet, a very good header and able at first-time shots. He had nice speed, good ball control and passing ability.
