INFO:O'Neill is a former attacking midfielder. His career began in 1992 at Club Nacional, where he played 70 games and scored 17 goals in four seasons. He transferred to Cagliari in 1995. He stayed there until 2000, when he joined Juventus. He played 136 games for the
Rossoblu, scoring 16 times. He didn't play much at Juventus, making only 20 appearances in a season and half. Despite that, Zinédine Zidane once admitted that O'Neill is the best he had the chance to play with. The Uruguayan retired in 2003 after short and unsuccesful experiences at Perugia and again Club Nacional. He gained 19 caps for Uruguay, scoring twice, taking part to the 1993 Copa América and 2002 FIFA World Cup. However, he didn't play in the latter due to an Achilles tendon injury.
Considered at Cagliari as Francescoli's successor, O'Neill was a skillful midfielder, gifted with good speed despite his big physique. The best way to stop him was to commit foul on him. Highly accurate with both feet, he possessed excellent technique and dribbling, great vision and passing ability. He also was a good header and decent free kick taker. Moreover, he fought on every ball, taking them from his opponent so that he could keep showing his skills. He did whatever he wanted with the ball but with as less effort as he could. In fact, he lacked of consistency throughout his whole career. That was caused mostly by the fact that he loved nightlife and drinking. Therefore, he never reached his full potential and couldn't bear the rhythms of Juventus.
