Cvetković is a former winger or secondary striker. He had his best years at Dinamo Zagreb, where he scored 44 goals in 151 league matches from 1980 to 1986, and Crvena Zvezda where he scored a total of 29 goals in 70 matches between 1986 and 1988 in all competitions. In the 1986-87 European Cup he was the top scorer. Meanwhile he capped 14 times for Yugoslavia, scoring 2 goals. In 1988 he joined Italian team Ascoli and stayed here for three seasons, scoring 25 goals in 95 matches in Serie A and Serie B. Then he played in Italian and Yugoslavian minor teams, before retiring in 1995.
A talented striker, Cvetković wasn't gifted with a strong physique but he was dangerous thanks to great speed and dribbling ability that often made him break through the defences. He could use well both feet, was able with first-time touches, had a good leap and was very effective with the head. He wasn't very accurate in front of the goal and scored many times after dribbling the goalkeeper. He had the skills to become a great player. Unfortunately, mostly due to lack of constistency, he wasn't able to reach his full potential, especially in Italy where he proved to be a pure talent but he couldn't settle well enough, despite a good amount of goals.
