INFO:
Catalano was an inside forward and he's considered one of the greatest players in the history of Bari. He played 190 matches and scored 50 goals for the Galletti from 1956 to 1965. He then played for Sampdoria, Mantova, Padova and Martina before retiring in 1971.
Compared to the legendary Omar Sívori, Catalano was a playmaker and scorer, able to build up the game with quality as well as finalize it. He was an able passer but strangely he also received many long balls that he sent in goal with headers several times after running through the defence. His shots had good power and he had great speed combined with superb dribbling that made him very efficient when sprinting towards the goal in counter-attacks. His quickness and sprints were a big trouble for the defences. A memorable goal came in a 3-1 win against Milan on 30th April 1961: he started running from the midfield, dribbled four opponents and beat the goalkeeper. Another great moment came in a 4-1 win against Lazio on 9th June 1963: he received the ball and immediately dribbled three opponents before being put down by the goalkeeper and eventually scored the penalty. Sometimes he helped his own defence, stopping opponents or avoiding shots to go into the net.
