INFO:Le Saux is a former left-back or left-side midfielder. His professional career began at Chelsea in 1989. He played a bit less than 100 games and scored 9 goals in four seasons before being sold to Blackburn Rovers mainly due to his attitude in a match against Southampton, when he threw the shirt away after being replaced. He became in his new club one of the best side backs in England. He played with Blackburn 152 matches and scored 7 goals from 1993 to 1997. He eventually came back to Chelsea as a better player and had a most successful career in this second spell, appearing in 192 matches and scoring 7 times from 1997 to 2003. After leaving Chelsea, he played two seasons at Southampton and retired in 2005. He gained 36 caps for England and scored once.
Le Saux was renowned for his good technique and great speed, thanks to which he often ran down the left flank to deliver many good crosses. He was able both in attack and defence, showing good anticipation ability. Le Saux primary position was left back but due to his versatility it wasn't easy to decide his permanent position in his early career. At Blackburn he was a regular starter in defence on the left side and here his career flourished. So, he became also a first choice for England. When he came back to Chelsea he alternated his role as left back and left side midfielder. His performances were among the most constant in Premier League. During his career Le Saux suffered several injuries that stopped him from reaching his full potential. Another issue that affected him was ─ as he said in an interview ─ the fact he was considered by many teammates as an homosexual because he never went out with them, for example to have a drink in a pub.
