Defence MindedINFO:Zanello was a defender who played for Pro Vercelli from 1922 to 1933 and capped twice for Italy in 1927. Signed as successor of Rosetta, he played 276 matches and scored 49 goals. He didn't dislike pushing forward but most of his goals came from penalty − which was his specialty − but also from free kick. He played also for Torino between 1933 and 1936 and retired in 1940 after playing for Vigevano.
Gifted with a short but strong physique, Zanello was a poderous and careful defender, often superior to teammates and opponents. His clearances were powerful and his tackles reliable. He was though criticized for having two different sides, one positive and one negative: the positive one included impressive strength, firm kicks, great aerial game; the negative one included difficulties against opponents who played ball on the ground, uncertainty when he had to study their positioning and movements. He had portentous means and indomitable will but his ideas and principles were not very clear.
