INFO:Bocandé was a centre-forward. His career started in 1978 at Casa Sport in his native country Senegal. He then played in Belgium for Tournai between 1980 and 1982, and Seraing between 1982 and 1984, scoring 20 goals for both teams, playing 68 and 61 matches respectively. He had his most successful time in France where he played for Metz between 1984 and 1986, PSG in 1986-87, Nice between 1987 and 1991, Lens in 1991-92. He scored 36 goals in 70 appearances for Metz and 33 in 115 for Nice. He was French Division 1 top scorer in 1985-86 with 23 goals. Bocandé retired in 1993 after spending one season in Belgium with Eendracht Alost. He capped for Senegal 73 times, scoring 20 goals.
Bocandé was a very good striker, physically strong (his nickname
Essamay means "indomitable lion"), gifted with great ball control, high pace on and off the ball, being especially devastating in acceleration. His dribbling was usually good but mostly thanks to his strength as he wasn't too agile and his movements often appeared predictable. He possessed a good and fairly powerful shot, especially with his natural right foot and in arobacy but he also had a remarkable heading ability. He was particularly effective on the lines thanks to his instinct inside the box. However, he liked to play out of the box too, drawing defenders, creating space for his teammates and providing them with good short passes, using also the left foot if necessary. He was also solid from set piece as he took penalties and free kicks from time to time. He always played with grit and spirit of sacrifice, sometimes showing too much enthusiasm that led him to receive several cards throughout his career.
