INFO:

“The Digger” John Barnes is one of the greatest English left-wingers of all-time. He was famous for his powerful running, acceleration and ability to score on his own. He began his career with Watford and his outstanding performance led him to be signed for Liverpool after their golden era had passed. Barnes remained going on his impressive playing and established himself in all-time Liverpool XI for many sources. Internationally, He was not used at the 1986 World Cup until the quarter final against Argentina when England were trailing 2-0 with 15 minutes, setting up one goal for Gary Lineker and laying on another chance which Lineker missed. Barnes had been recognized for his contribution in the game.

Since his move from Watford FC to Liverpool FC in the summer of 1987, John Charles Bryan Barnes has developed from an "eternal talent" and insecure cantonist to a constant class man. The former solo entertainer showed previously unimagined fighting qualities in the "Reds" and became one of the best footballers in Europe. His former coach Kenny Dalglish explained the transformation of the dark-skinned star striker with the words: "We just had to make it clear to him that he cannot win a beauty award for the longest dribble with us, but a championship title if he submits to the team."

The athletic footballer (1.80 m tall, 78 kg heavy) with strong thighs is a very dynamic player who plays lightly around his opponents, is powerful and capable of shooting from all positions. "A boundless self-confidence, a brilliant technique and game culture" (isk) , the ability to make surprising passes and buttery smooth crosses as well as free kicks are further strengths of him. He was great with both feet, they were both exactly the same, great finisher, he never used to blast his shots – they'd just get placed right in the corner.

I have watched him several times from 1986-1988 games and I doubt he was that fast. He looked like a heavy player (fit but heavy), his TS was something like 78-80 and ACC wasn't better than that either, seemed less agile too.
