Goalkeeper Bill Brown made a total of 262 appearances for the Club during his seven year spell with us, winning the League Championship and FA Cup Double' in 1961, the FA Cup again in 1962 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1963.

He started his career with Dundee in September 1949, with whom he made 214 Scottish League appearances and won the Scottish League Cup in 1952, before joining us on June 22, 1959, for £16,500. He made his debut for us against Newcastle United on August 22 that year, the first of 222 league games for us, together with 23 in the FA Cup and 17 European games.

A tall keeper with great hands and distribution, Brown won 28 caps for Scotland, 24 of them while on our books, and was first capped for his country at the 1958 World Cup Finals in Sweden.

He left White Hart Lane in October, 1966, to join Northampton Town, playing 17 times before moving to Canada with Toronto Falcons in April, 1967 and he remained in Canada after retiring from football, working for a Toronto property developer and then spent 20 years with the Ontario Government land department until retiring in 1995.

Brown passed away at Simcoe, Ontario, near the USA/Canada border following a long illness in 2004.
