INFO:

Stjepan Lamza was born on 23rd of January 1940 in Sisak(now Croatia), former Yugoslavia. Lamza is a former Croatian football player. He played for Dinamo Zagreb, Rijeka, NK Zagreb, Chateauroux, and Melbourne Croatia. He also 7 cap for Yugoslavian national team.

Lamza start his career in Segesta Sisak which is oldest club in Croatia, and in NK Maribor. Segesta and Maribor were also his youth clubs. From 1960 until 1958 he played for Dynamo Zagreb. Until horrific injury in 1967., Stjepan Lamza recorded 281 appearances and 18 league goals for Dinamo. Lamza won with Dinamo Yugoslavian Cup called “Marshall Tito Cup” twice in 1963. and 1965. He also won with Dinamo Uefa Cup in 1967. and also was in final of the same Cup 4 years before.

As excellent dribbler, Lamza showed his best performances as left attacking midfielder, and he also played successfully as defender. Unfortunate fall from hotel balcony in Zagreb interrupt his career, after which he recovered for long period of time. When he recovers from injury he played for Rijeka, Zagreb, La Berrichonne Chateauroux and Croatia Melbourne. Altogether for these four clubs i listed above, Stjepan Lamza played only 18 games and scored 3 goals. After fatal injury he played only one fantastic match. That was the match Dynamo – Benfica Lisbon, organized as Lamza leaving. “Štef” what is Lamza nickname, played first half and was brilliant. He scored a goal, Dinamo won 2:0 and ‘Modri”, urged with supporters, offer Lamza 2-year contract after the match. Lamza rejected and retired due injury. That’s how one big talent finished his career too early.

Stjepan Lamza played once for Yugoslavia "B" (1961) and Yugoslavia under-21 (1960), and 7 times for Yugoslavian national team. His debiut in Yugoslavian national team was on 27th of October 1963. against Romania (1:2) in Bucharest, and last match against Albania (2:0) in Tirana on 14th of May 1967.

Unfortunately, Dinamo player who won Uefa Cup in 1967, Lamza, Zambata, Rora, Čerček, Belin or Blašković born 40 year too early. Today they would be milliners.

- “Today I live from 1600 Kuna pension and if there wasn’t Zdravko Mamić(who place Stjepan Lamza as Dinamo scout) , I don’t know how would I exist!” That are true words of one of the biggest Dinamo players in the club history, who beat Barcelona, Juventus, Inter and AC Milan in his times…
