INFO:
Castello was a half-back. His career started in 1924 at Pro Palazzolo. He transferred to La Chivasso one year later. He signed for Casale in 1927 and had his best time with the Nerostellati, making 164 appearances and scoring 2 goals in seven seasons. He also had a good three-year spell at Triestina from 1934 to 1937, playing 82 matches and scoring once. He retired in 1942 after experiences with Venezia, Vigevano and Cuneo.
A short but bulky midfielder, Castello was combative, tough, hard tackling, tireless, never hesitant to intimidate his opponents and always moving everywhere for the whole length of the match. He lacked style but he was good at supporting the rest of the midfield in the attacking actions thanks to a solid passing ability. He possessed a powerful long range shot that he would attempt whenever he had the chance given that he didn't push forward often. He was the heart and brain of Casale's team as the game of the Nerostellati revolved around him. His performances were always very consistent both at Casale and Triestina. He was often considered to represent Italy, but the main national team already had players like Bertolini, Ferraris and Pitto. Therefore, Castello only capped 4 times for Italy B.

He was the brain of the team as much as he was the ram, breaking every opposition's attack as he wanted from the first to the last minute. [...] The centre-half's judgment, perception, neat touch and endless breath were such a big asset that Brescia had no chance for even a minute: Castello managed to stun them, tackle them and cloud their ideas, giving the impression that they couldn't do anything"
