Álex Escobar is a former Colombian Midfielder, regarded as one of the best Midfielder of Colombia history, he was the captain and leader of América de Cali in de 90s taking the team to many Colombian leagues and great international participations.
He was an excellent passer, mostly in long passes, but in short passes too, he was many times compared with Carlos Valderrama, because booth used to have a similar style to play, actually that was the biggest problem in his career, how he was contemporary to Valderrama and used to play in the same position, his opportunities in Colombian national team were very few. But previous to WC94 when Valderrame got an injury he was his replace for many friendly matches and Colombia did not lost any match under his command.
He is also one of the best players of Liga de Quito in Ecuador, where him played his last matches as professional.
