Melvyn Charles (born 14 May 1935) is a Welsh former professional footballer. He played at both centre-half and centre-forward, and is the brother of John Charles. He was voted as the best centre-half in FIFA World Cup 1958.

Like his older sibling, Mel was a versatile player, comfortable in central defender, attack and right half which gave him what is now called, a half-decent career. His strong body is very scary for opposing player. Mel signed Arsenal in March 1959. He made debut againts Sheffield United on 22 August 195z, but a cartilage injury forced him to miss nearly half of the 1959-1960 season. Injury continued to afflict him through out 1960-1961 requiring him undergo two operation.

Mel made his debut for Wales in 1955 and played in FIFA World Cup 1958, the only time they have reached the quarter final lost by Brazil. He won 31 caps for his country and scored 6 goals.
