INFO

Karl-Heinz Thielen was winger and centre forward, later an offensive right back. A dynamic and very fast outside right with a very hard shot, Thielen spent the second half of his career as an attacking right back, always playing for Köln. A very intelligent player, his 24 goals scored in Oberliga West 1961-62 played a big part in Köln winning the 1962 championship. In December 1963, Thielen became the first player ever to score five goals in a single Bundesliga game (against Kaiserslautern, 5-1 to Köln). Thielan was lanky and elegant player, very versatile and mobile, with good ball control and dribbling skills, always correct behaved on the pitch and had also sharp and well placed shot. A fact that no one else can claim to be: In all great successes of the first FC Cologne to have been involved directly or indirectly. Karl-Heinz Thielen was German champion as a player twice, once "as a team captain," DFB-Cup winner, and during his time as a board member and manager of FC won the DFB Cup three times and was once a German champion. On 7 December 1963 played the first FC Cologne in the Bundesliga season premiere against 1 FC Kaiserslautern and won 5:1. It was the day of Karl-Heinz Thielen, as he scored all five goals FC. But it was not the first time that Thielen with many goals in one match is made aware of. At 19, he came in 1959 from TSV Rodenkirchen for amateur division of the first FC Cologne. He was second only to the first Amateur team play, but scored in his first four goals. During his active career, he studied economics, was Master of Business Administration and laid the foundation for his successful work as official. After his time at FC Thielen was district manager for many years at West Lotto. Since 2006, "Kalli" officially retired, but he still operates as a licensed player consultant and more recently as a book author.
