INFO:
Lombardo was right side midfielder or winger. Grown up at Pergocrema, he joined Cremonese in 1985, playing 168 matches and scoring 22 goals in four seasons. He transferred to Sampdoria in 1989 and stayed there until 1995, coming back for the 2001-02 season, after which he retired. He had with the Blucerchiati his best time, playing 308 games, scoring 51 goals, winning the 1989-90 Cup Winners' Cup, the 1990-91 Scudetto, the 1991 Italian Supercup and the 1993-94 Italian Cup. He then played for Juventus between 1995 and 1997 and Lazio between 1999 and 2001, winning the Serie A with both teams ─ he's one of the few players who won it with three different clubs. He played also for Crystal Palace in the biennium 1997-1999. He gained 18 caps for Italy, scoring 3 goals.
Lombardo was gifted with outstanding speed, great agility, spirit of teamwork and sacrifice, helpful either in attack with spectacular progressions forward and in defence when he tracked back at full speed. Renowned also for his great stamina and athletic vitality, he managed to play 144 consecutive Serie A matches. Right footed but accurate with the left foot as well, Lombardo possessed great dribbling, good control of the ball even though he wasn't always accurate at stopping the ball, a remarkable crossing ability and good shots, mainly volleys and first time. He scored also a few good headers and possessed a decent leap.
