Jackie Sewell, a former England international striker who was a prolific goalscorer at Aston Villa, Notts County and Sheffield Wednesday during the 1940s and 1950s. Sewell finished his playing career in England at Hull City before heading to Africa and becoming a pioneering coach in three different countries, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Zambia and the Belgian Congo. Sewell was most effective playing at inside-right, a hard worker who played a controlled passing game, whether they were long cross-field passes or of the direct defence splitting variety. Known by his team-mates as tough and direct and renowned for his nippiness, he scored a hatful of goals at Meadow Lane by picking up the pieces created by the legendary Tommy Lawton.
