He was capped 112 matches and scored 5 goals for the Swiss national team between 1980 and 1996.He played four games at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and was in the Euro 1996 squad.He was captain of Swiss national team on 1994 FIFA World Cup and Euro 1996.His son,Bastien,is also a professional football player.
