INFO:Erik Mykland, nicknamed "Myggens" (The Mosquito) is one of the most technically gifted players ever to grace the Norwegian national team. He also one of the most controversial, due to various incidents off the pitch and highly controversial autobiography.
Never much of a goalscorer, Mykland is a hard-working player who created lot of scoring opportunities for his team mates. He is also an execellent tacker despite his rather slight build.
Mykland was a key figure in the Norwegian team that qualified for 3 international competitions Norway between 1994 and 2000. In all, he appeared in total 10 matches, nine as starter - on 23 June 1998, in Norway's historical 2 - 1 win againts Brazil in Marseille, he started on the bench, replacing Roar Strand in half-time.
In Euro 2000, Mateja Kezman of Serbia, was sent off after just 1 minute, after a dangerous tackle on Mykland. While Mykland failed to score more than twice for the national team, a goal created by playing through Øyvind Leonhardsen in Euro 2000 qualification match againts Slovenia was rated among Norway's best goals ever - much due to Mykland's ability to trick several defenders prior to the pass.
