INFO:
Muzzi was a versatile striker, mainly centre forward but also capable as secondary striker or on the wings. Grown up at Roma, he didn't have much success with the first team, scoring 12 goals in 83 matches from 1988 to 1994 ─ excluding the 1993-94 season on loan at Pisa. He was then sold to Cagliari, where he became a fan favourite. The first season was good while the following two less prolific and the 1996-97 ended with the relegation to Serie B. The striker became the team's seasonal top scorer with 19 goals, helping the Rossoblu catching the immediate promotion to Serie A. He repeated himself in Serie A, scoring 16 goals ─ 18 in all competitions. He left Cagliari after 158 matches and 64 goals. He joined Udinese in 1999 and he proved also here to be a fantastic striker, scoring 45 times in 123 appearances until 2003 and leading the team to win the UEFA Intertoto in his second season. He retired in 2009 after playing for Lazio, Torino and Padova. He never capped for Italy except for 5 matches with the olympic team but he deserved more consideration during his time at Cagliari and Udinese.
Muzzi was a strong and fast striker, hard to stop especially on acceleration. He possessed good technique and dribbling ability. He could challenge the defenders face to face, run past them and beat the goalkeeper or serve an unmarked teammate. These characteristics were particularly noticeable when he played as winger or started an attack on the flank because he was very good at converge to the centre. He was also nice passer of the ball, especially with crosses ─ he occasionally took corners ─ and headings. His ability with the head was though mainly helpful when he waited inside the box before making a huge leap and hit the ball. He was a great opportunist, gifted with timing of reaction and smartness to anticipate the defenders. He was right-footed and used his favourite foot most of the times but he scored very good goals also with the left. His shots were thunderous, he could give the ball a good effect and was very accurate with the outside. Arguably, his best quality was the volley shot, either if it was a long range, a shot with the outside or a bycicle kick. He was also a good penalty taker and a fine free kick taker. Moreover, he was very determined and sacrificed himself for the team, often backing off to the midfield to trigger an action or catch a high ball.
