INFO:Throughout his career as a footballer he played for FC Zurich in the midfield, apart from a two-month trip to local rivals Grasshopper-Club. He won so six times from 1962 to 1977 the Swiss championship and five times the Swiss Cup. For the national team, he completed 63 international matches.
His great loyalty to FC Zurich, however, prevented an international career, which made his name recognition in national boundaries. The success of the national team were also within certain limits. Although one could with director Kuhn twice for the World Cup (1962 in Chile and 1966 in England) qualify, but they lost on both occasions, all games, if sometimes also in short supply. However, he was in 1966 in the 0-5 defeat by Germany (Group 1 game), together with another service provider of the team (Werner Leimgruber) not there, was because he was not prepared for stepping over the "curfew" before the game by the coach as punishment . Thus Jacob Kuhn was denied for various reasons, the attention of a wider international audience. After all, he reached with FC Zurich at the beginning and end of his career the semifinals of the European Champions' Cup (1964, resigned over Real Madrid in 1977, left against Liverpool).
Prior to his appointment as national coach, he worked successfully as a coach of the Under-21 national team. His strategy is to seek success with young, motivated players that want to form a unit. He can also put yourself in the position of apparently well-maturing, and thus support their young players mature. He seems to have a sense of when a young player is ready to take on more responsibility. He was nominated in the past years, many young players and frightened not be afraid to separate from arrivierten players, which threatened to jeopardize the harmony (as Ciriaco Sforza). He succeeded again and again, young players like Tranquillo Barnetta, Valon Behrami, Philippe Senderos, etc. to give the confidence that they thanked him with outstanding services.
Since 2001, the coach of the so-called A-team, reached Kuhn his first goal as a group winner will qualify the team for Euro 2004 in Portugal, where they will not accept the group stage after two defeats (against France and England) and a draw ( Croatia finished) in last place. Decision by two games against Turkey (2-0 in Bern, 2:4 in Istanbul), he led the team in November 2005 for the World Cup 2006 in Germany, where it reached the second round. As a recognition on 19 November 2005 (with permission from the city of Zurich) in Wiedikon, the home of Kobi Kuhn, the non-official "Kobi Kuhn-place World Cup 2006" was inaugurated. In October 2006, Cohen announced to resign after Euro 2008 as a coach. On 17 December he was elected to the Swiss coach of the year, on 13 January 2007 Swiss of the Year. On 15 June 2008, he played his last game as coach of the national team. Switzerland has won the last group match against Portugal 2-0. After the final whistle, the outgoing coach Jakob Kuhn with a banner of the team with the inscription "Thanks Kobi" and chants of the fans' Köbi National "was celebrated.
