Silviu Lung is arguably Romania's greatest ever goalkeeper. He played fourteen seasons with Universitatea, winning two league titles and is regarded for his performances as Craiova's undisputed best ever goalkeeper and still revered for his incredible jumps. In 1988 he joined Steaua Bucureşti and won another league title the first season. He played in the 1988/89 European Cup and reached the Final with Steaua.
Lung was capped 77 times for Romania between 1979 and 1993, and represented his country at Euro 1984 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where he was captain in all four matches.
His best moment for Craiova was in the 1983 UEFA Cup when he kept clean sheets against Fiorentina away , Shamrock Rovers in both games , against Bordeaux both games , against Kaiserslautern home and Benfica away in the semifinal. His best year came in 1984 when he was named Romanian footballer of the year and was also nominated for the Ballon d'Or.
