INFO:Arguably the greatest player in Dundee United's history. David Narey spent 22 years with United making an incredible 872 appearances for the club. Narey was an elegant defender, tall and relaxed with good skills on the ball and excellent speed. He was good at hitting long passes and had a powerful shot, most famously scoring an excellent goal against Brazil at the 1982 World Cup. He formed a very good partnership with Paul Hegarty at CB, but he could also play at right back or in central midfield. He had an air of confidence and used to stroll through games seemingly totally unfazed. This sometimes got him into trouble, being caught taking too much time with the ball, although his distribution was generally very good. His pace allowed him to cover a large area of the defensive line, and helped in recovery as both him and Hegarty liked to go forward and join the attack. He was the first Dundee United player to play for Scotland and eventually won 35 caps, playing in 5 World Cup games over two tournaments.
