Karam is a former central or defensive midfielder. He spent his entire career at Al-Arabi from 1972 to 1986. A Kuwaiti international player, he won the 1980 AFC Asian Cup and took part to the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Karam was a good midfielder, almost only right-footed and distinguished particularly for his passing skills. Extremely capable of distributing short passes, he could do it first time, with the outside or in acrobacy. His long passes were also good even though less frequent. He preferred staying mainly in the middle of the field as he wasn't very fast. However, his good stamina allowed him to sometimes make movements forward to support the attack and occasionally attempt to shoot or help in the defence by anticipate an opponent and take the ball off him before starting the offense from the back. He possessed also remarkable technical and dribbling skills.
