This is a set proposal for Elias Figueroa regarding his participation in the qualifying campaign and for the 1982 World Cup in Spain. If he remains one of the best South American central defenders of all time, his performances during this last competition seem to be far behind his best years. Looking at the qualifying match against Ecuador and the three confrontations in the first round in Spain, what first appears concerns his position as a very remote libero, who does not participate in the attack, except to mount punctually on the corners. His speed seems diminished, with the inability to catch Hrubesch, as does his agility and ability to react against a player like Krankl. He remains of great defensive mastery in the penalty area and seems to have retained good aerial game skills, combined with excellent technique.
