Hi there! This team is quite difficult to analyze due to its highly polarizing nature. Estudiantes was the team with the most seasons played in the Primera División during the Amateur Era (31), and also the sixth team with the most points accumulated in this period, only behind the 5 big teams of Argentine football. However, if we look closely at their trajectory, we’ll see that more than 50% of their matches ended in defeats, and they have a goal difference of over -300 (they even finished a season in 33rd place in the Primera División!). Additionally, they continued playing in amateur championships even after the officialization of professionalism in Argentina (AAmF, AFAP, and AAF tournaments, in contrast to the already professional LAF tournaments). Most of the players on a team like this should come from the amateur era, but without overshadowing the players from the Professional Era, whose most notable team was the one that played in the Primera División in the 1977/78 season after 44 years. A few small corrections: for instance, Armando Ginnochio played as a left-half or center-half, not as a central defender. Juan Carlos Bravo, who is the greatest idol in the club’s history, did play as a central defender. Another great defender in Estudiantes' history could be Alejandro (not Alexander, as Estudiantes was a 100% criollo club) Harris, 'Cabecita de Oro,' one of the pioneers in heading in Argentine football (perhaps alongside Harold Ratcliff), and Eduardo Filipetti (154 games between 1977 and 1983). Most of the great 1977 team is included, but I would also include Rubén Martinuccio or Antonio Balbiano. Still, it’s worth mentioning that Ciccarello played most of both tournaments as an attacking midfielder, not as a forward, and that Juan Carlos Bravo was the penalty-taker. I also mention players like Juan Dodds Brown (one of the famous Brown family from Alumni), L.C. Bownas, Amílcar Spinelli, and Natalio Bottachi (all called up to the Argentine National Team, whether the official or the dissident one while playing for Estudiantes), Juan Calicchio, the only top scorer in a long tournament that Estudiantes ever had with 37 goals in 40 matches in 1946 (though he only played for one year), Hugo Segovia, Pedro Sciulli, Jorge Paz, and the coach Ricardo Trigilli, who is their most successful coach ever, instead of Bozetti. I also would like to note Diego Figueroa, Luis Ugarte and Héctor Giorgietti (in reserves) who should automatically be promoted to the first team instead of José Susán, Baldovino (who should be moved to midfielders), and Díaz, and I suggest changing the formation to a 4-4-2 (Max Susán was a center-forward, not an inside forward), or alternatively, to a 2-3-5 (if you want to maintain the amateur spirit of this team). Hope you have a great day. |
