INFO

Günter Bernard was German keeper who didn't have too much chance in NT due to abundance of great keepers in Germany at the time. Bernard was keeper with excellent reflexes, good speed on the line and great positioning. A goalkeeper of relatively small stature who made this more than up with his great reflexes and his commanding presence. He was occassionally "weak" on long range shots and had some problems with the control of the box. But he was mentally and physically strong. Günter Bernard started his career in 1954 as a field player 1 FC Schweinfurt 05th, before the 1963-64 season moved to Werder Bremen. Werder in the 1964-65 season remained in 12 games without conceding a goal, and the myth of the "Bremer Concrete" was born. The 1968 season Werder Bremen then ended on a good second place. In the following years he was in the club but not without controversy. Except on the basis of his height Bernard had always had problems with the control box, was like this but by a perfect positional play and an unshakable calm. Bernard moved once more to the amateur league Atlas Delmenhorst and finished his playing career for good. Then he took a job as a sales manager for a sportswear company. Due to strong performance in the Bundesliga, he was in 1966 on two other games, and he was appointed to the German squad for the World Cup in 1966. His last international match played on 9 use Günter Bernard May 1968 in Wales, when he was in the 26th Minute was a substitute.
