INFO:
Spartaco Landini was a defender, mainly right back but often used as centre back and sweeper, especially at Inter, where he played 137 matches from 1962 to 1970. He then played 105 games for Palermo from 1970 to 1973 and 26 for Napoli from 1973 to 1976. He retired in 1978 after two years at Sangiovannese. He gained 4 caps for Italy in 1966.
Landini was a good defender but not enough to be the best replacement for the likes of Armando Picchi, Aristide Guarneri and Tarcisio Burgnich. His performances weren't always satisfactory and he couldn't impose himself with the same authority as the aforementioned defenders. Landini possessed decent speed and good timing of reaction to intercept the shots but couldn't reject them far enough and that sometimes led to an opponent scoring. His main task was to mark an opponent, which he did it decently but he easily committed too many fauls and couldn't stop properly dangerous attackers like Pietro Anastasi or Kurt Hamrin. He was uncomfortable when he didn't play in contact with an opposing striker. On the other hand though, despite the fact the he was often used in a central position to act as man marker, it's there where he had the most underwhelming performances, especially when he played as sweeper. He occasionally pushed forward but ultimately scored only once in his career.
