Hannes or Hans Bongartz was one of the best midfielders in bundesliga in late 70's. Offensive midfielder with good running capacities and excellent dribbling. Bongartz was good passer, lanky and stylish with solid shot although not some great scorer, had even good pace and good vision. His football career began in Prussia Duisdorf. About the Bonner SC 1971 he went to SG Wattenscheid 09 in the West Regional. Bongartz was mid-70s, the one due to its slender physique throughout his career with the nickname "Tarzan asparagus" thought, as the largest German midfielder. In 1974 he moved to the first Bundesliga FC Schalke 04 and was equal to regular players, who played all the games his first season in the top German league.
