Many people would answer Michael Ballack on the question who's the best scorer in bundesliga among the midfielders. But that's far from true. The answer is this Doctor with rocket shot. Nickel was offensive midfielder or left winger with fantastic shooting capacities. As a kid he practiced his shooting constantly on their farm usually making the targets and than trying to hit them to get the points. Bernd was excellent set piece taker, few times scored directly from corner, could make excellent 50-60 meters long ball. On the other side his running capacities were little bit weak. He played for 13 years in his home club in the A-youth. After a call from his uncle in 1966 he was allowed to audition for a trial at Eintrach. Six days before his 19th Birthday, on 9 Debuted in March 1968, the attacking left-sided player in the away game against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. Seven days later, on 16 March, he carried himself in a 4-1 home win against Borussia Dortmund in the first scorer. On 1 Nickel debuted in May 1968 when international match against Italy in Belluno in the DFB-team. As an "Olympic amateur" he continued this selection to the Olympic Games in 1972, preserved in Munich.
