INFO:

Joop Korevaar was a former Dutch defender, a one club man for ADO Den Haag. He was a right footed left back, but also capable of playing on the right side and at centre back. He wasn't an elegant or agile player but he was a tough and solid marker with good timing which made him effective at securing his flank. His large size made him a formidable opponent in physical and aerial duels, and he was a good tackler when needed, although sometimes clumsy when going to ground. He could progress the ball well on occasion as his interceptions could start counter attacks, but he mostly stayed back and focused on defensive duties and most of his passes were simple ones to the nearest man. Korevaar was actually considered to play for the national team but rejected the call because he was a Jehovah's Witness, a faith that forbids saluting state symbols such as flags and national anthems. Overall he played more than 400 games for ADO during one of their strongest eras in the 70s, winning the KNVB Cup and playing in Europe on several occasions throughout the decade before a knee injury in 1982 forced his retirement.
