Uli Borowka is ex German footballer, playing as defender. He was most known for his sharp tackling and butchering and strong shot. In the Bundesliga, he played for Borussia Moenchengladbach and Werder Bremen. As a defender Borowka appeared from 1981 to 1996 in 388 Bundesliga games and scored 19 goals. With Werder Bremen, he was German champion in 1988 and 1993 and 1991 and 1994 DFB Cup winner. The highlight of his career was winning the European Cup Winners' Cup 1991/92 Werder Bremen in Lisbon. Known as the "iron base" defensive player - was particularly valued as bulletproof and-tackling strong and feared. He was considered one of the best and toughest defenders of his time, even if his footballing talent was probably limited. Borowka was opponent of Olaf Thon on his Bundesliga debut in 1984 against Moenchengladbach. He recalls, "My opponent was Uli Borowka and he received me with the words, I'll break you like both legs'." In 1988 Borowka wore six times the jersey of the German national team and participated in the European Championships in Germany, where he in all four games of the DFB-Elf was used. By his own testimony he has from that time even a jersey of Diego Armando Maradona, to which he, in his first match against Argentina on 2 April 1988 met. After the European Borowka was no longer recalled by team boss Franz Beckenbauer. In 1997 Borowka moved to Widzew Lodz and was the first German soccer player, in Eastern European professional league, Ekstraklasa Poland. After the end of his career, he was due to alcohol-related and family problems in the media. In the years 1997, 2000 and 2001 he worked as a trainer at the Oberliga FC Oberneuland, Berliner AK and SV Wilhelmshaven. Borowka has recorded with the punk band Bremer Dimple Minds a single with the title barefoot or shoe polish. Currently Borowka hired as a talent scout at the DFB.
