Jimmy Hartwig is HSV legend, he was excellent player but sadly due to skin colour never had a real chance for playing for German National Team. Jimmy played as a defensive midfielder with attacking attitude or as a defender. He was very strong player with good stamina, strong in aerial battles and with great scoring record for a player who's primarly task was defending. I read he head very strong shot, although I must admit from games I saw it didn't look so strong, and many times completely misskicked, but also he sometimes knew to kick it well and score a goal. William George Hartwig, always called Jimmy, in the 70's and 80's was one of the colorful characters of the Bundesliga. After playing career Hartwig worked as a coach. Finally, he hit a career as a stage actor and was under other than Woyzeck in Leipzig on stage. A native of Hesse, who at 05 October 1954, the son of a German mother and an African-American GIs came into the world, completed after the main school trained as a machinist. Hartwig started in his home town of Offenbach at the local "kickers" with the football games. 1973/74 drew the junior football as an amateur in the team of second division club VfL Osnabrueck. Under his coach Jimmy Hartwig Klaus Ochs managed to gain a regular place in the team. But he fell out with his teammates and Osnabrück moved in the summer of 1974 TSV 1860 Munich. Here, the newcomer had developed under coach Max Merkel initially a difficult position, but under his successor, Heinz Luke Hartwig is a valuable player who had significant role in ensuring that the "lions" of 1977 abolished the rise in the Bundesliga. Günter Netzer 1978 Hartwig brought to Hamburg, where the most successful period began in the football career of Jimmy Hartwig. The HSV coach Branko Zebec trained Hartwig of the defenders at the defensive midfielder. The football player completed the first year immediately all 34 Bundesliga games and was third top scorer with ten goals of his team. The season was crowned by winning the German championship. Germany coach Jupp Derwall took Jimmy Hartwig in 1979 with the national team trip to Ireland and Iceland, where he came in two matches. However, it remained the only Hartwig's games in the senior national team. He also played six B matches and eight games in the DFB-Olympic team. After the first title Jimmy Hartwig was an integral part of the major HSV-team that delivered in the first half of 1980 with Bayern Munich a year an exciting race for the championship, while 1982 and 1983, had his nose in front. Internationally, the HSV played a major role. The highlight of this successful era in their history was winning the European Champions' Cup (later UEFA Champions League) 1983rd Having reached the summit of European club football, the big HSV team collapsed gradually and the long-time performers Hartwig had to after the end of the 1983/84 season looking for a new club. Jimmy Hartwig moved to 1 FC Cologne could, but do not tie up to his earlier form and was deported shortly after beginning his second year on the Austrian second division side Salzburg, Austria. The access of the former European Cup winner brought the club any positive momentum. 1986 Hartwig went back to the Bundesliga, has signed a contract with FC Homburg promoted and ended his career in 1987 finally at Arminia Bielefeld.
Just over a year came after his playing career Hartwig beginning of October 1989 his first coach station at FC Augsburg at. But the commitment of the novice coach was not even a quarter: Although he won with his team in seven games, six wins and a draw table and second, he was released early December 1989. For the 1990-91 season took over the league Hartwig Movers and thus "East first division club" FC Sachsen Leipzig, the only on 30 July 1990 from the merger of the two clubs BSG and BSG Chemie Leipzig Chemie Böhlen emerged. But the first coach in football West-east, where the conditions were d ifficult in Leipzig football when he took office completely foreign, but only four months remained in the Saxon town. The coaching career of Jimmy Hartwig was thus actually also ended already, since it followed only a short exposure at smaller clubs such as SC Wentorf, SV Soltau or 2003 a few months in North Baden district league team FC Phoenix Durmersheim. The football was Jimmy Hartwig yet connected. He founded a soccer school for children and young people in St. Peter-Ording, and served as manager of similar institutions. During his football career, Jimmy Hartwig operated as "artists" in show business and took the plate "Calypso Mama", which was at least 70,000 copies. Still an active player, he hosted the television broadcasts. Through a friend, the actor Thomas Thieme, Jimmy Hartwig came into contact with the theater industry. A legend is on the coach" himself in October 2009 he was at play in Leipzig in the director's project by Thomas Thieme, "Buechner / Leipzig / revolt" the "Woyzeck". The father of three - the children are aged between 32 and one year married, on 12 July 2010 his manager Stefanie Almer. For Hartwig, it is the fourth marriage.
