Legendary Swedish keeper. Ravelli was longtime serving keeper for his country, rational and reliable, his style was not too spectacular but efficient. He had excellent reflexes and good positioning on the line. Ravelli's father Peter was a physician from Sillian in East Tyrol, his mother, Greta is an Austrian woman originally from Millstatt (Carinthia). In the early 1950s immigrated to Sweden from the Ravellis. Ravellis twin brother Andrew played with him at Osters IF and in the national team. Ravelli is married and has three children. He played 1981-1997 in a total of 143 appearances for the Swedish national team, making it Sweden's national team record. On 8 June 1995 he surpassed in his 126th game against England Play the European record of Peter Shilton. This he expanded to 143 games and held it until 23 February 2000, he was outbid by Lothar Matthäus. With its 127th Game on 10 June 1995, he was also so far as Europeans last world record holder. That he remained until 21 May 1996, he was replaced by Adnan Al Khamees Talyani (UAE). He was the first world record holder in recent history that has not yet succeeded during his playing days. He was among other things, the 1990 World Cup, Euro 1992 and World Cup 1994 in part. His twin brother Andrew was also a football player, but not nearly as successful as his brother. Ravelli was Swedish Champion in 1980 and 1981 with Osters IF and 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995 and 1996 with IFK Gothenburg. At the World Championships in 1994 he became a hero when he was in the quarter-final match against Romania parry two penalties. Because of this action, he is still very popular in the country. After his retirement Ravelli has continued to work for his former club IFK Gothenburg. He is also a popular guest on TV shows and many a time as a goalkeeper at charity games can be found.
