Tom Dooley is legendary German player who represented USA on the national level. Mainly a sweeper or midfielder, although he vas very versatile and played even as striker in the early years of his career. Tom was pretty strong and reliable, excellent in aerial play although he could score with foot as well, very good tackler with solid pace and passing, technically good with great will and mental strength. In the Bundesliga he played for FC 08 Homburg, 1 FC Kaiserslautern, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Schalke 04 199 games and scored 20 goals. He also played in Major League Soccer for Columbus Crew and together with Lothar Matthaus in the NY / NJ MetroStars. With Kaiserslautern, he was 1990 German Cup winner and 1991 German champion. After the World Cup 1994, he joined Bayer Leverkusen and with FC Schalke to which he was transferred a year later, he won the 1997 UEFA Cup. "Tom" Dooley came in 1988 with FC Homburg to Kaiserslautern, where he DFB Cup winner 1990 German champion in 1991. The reliable player who could be used in defense and midfield, completed 131 appearances for the Red Devils and scored 15 goals this. He later took on the U.S. citizenship and could thus participate in the World Cup tournaments in 1994 and 1998. FCK Dooley left for the United States in 1993, before he returned to Germany in 1994 and played for Leverkusen and Schalke. His career finally ended in Major League Soccer for Columbus Crew. In May 2004, organized the now again living in the Palatinate Dooley, a charity game at Ramstein Palatinate, at the first time played almost the entire championship team of 1991 together. Dooley is the son of a U.S. soldier and a German mother. Ahead of World Cup 1994 in the United States offered him the American Football Association to play for the national team of the United States. Dooley then attended the American citizenship, but was able to keep his German citizenship. In 1993 he played in the Cup for the U.S. states and scored two goals in the 3-4 defeat against Germany. For the U.S., he attended the world championships in 1994 and 1998. A total of 81 countries Dooley played games for the USA, scoring seven goals.
