Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Attack MindedINFO:The legendary winger who formed great partnership with Gert Heidler in Dresden attack. Those two were practically like a twins: same age, size, look, positions and characteristics as footballers. Dieter played all positions in the attack but mainly right winger. Had good pace, dribbling, passing and was very industrious and dynamic, helping in playmaking duties. He was stronger than Heidler but not so fast on longer distance. As a dynamic winger, he was 1967-1980 one of the central figures in the Dresden attack squad. With 49 league goals and nine hits in the European Cup he was mainly in the 70s to the horrors of opposing defenses. His goal against Glasgow Rangers in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup made him on September 20, 1967 - four days after his 20th birthday - the first European Cup scorers SGD ever! Dieter Riedel began in 1957 at the ESR steel Groeditz playing football. Shortly after his first appearance as a GDR youth international, he was delegated in 1966 Florence on the Elbe. Already in his first year, the 1.70 meter tall offensive talent came on 13 league games, where he was employed on all storm positions at the black and yellow. In his second year in Dresden, the brawny storm tank played with his first goals further to the fore. In the league season 1969/70 he found his final resting place as a right winger. In subsequent years, Dieter Riedel contributed continuously to the success of the team and was behind the towering Hansi Kreische always be the absolute top performers of the team. Further championships followed in 1973, 1976, 1977 and 1978. With the Cup victory in 1977, he also won his second Double. In 1976, he played for the East German Olympic team and won with his teammates Dresden "Dixie" Dörner, Reinhard Häfner and Hartmut Schade in Canada the gold medal. After his playing days was the qualified sports teacher Riedel 1982-1986 Assistant coach Gerhard Prautzsch and Klaus Sammer. Even after that he remained loyal to the club , was involved as a member bodies and youth leaders.
