INFO:Melo was a right back who stood out for his regularity and defensive strength in marking (sticky markings). One of his greatest characteristics was his great sense of anticipation. Although considered a defensive full back, he could be also seen as semi-offensive (under Merkel more offensive). Not too technical, nor agile - with a straightforward dribble, nice short passing, but very basic. Not so accurate crosses and the didn't posess the strength. Moderately quick with a good balance and overall defense and positioning.
After playing for Plasencia, Béjar and Real Valladolid, he signed for Atlético de Madrid in 1968, where he won three Leagues and two Copa del Rey titles. In addition, Paco Melo achieved a runner-up in the European Cup in the 73-74 season and an Intercontinental Cup in the following season.
Paco Melo retired from the pitch at the end of the 76-77 season. He played a total of 192 games in the First Division with Atlético de Madrid and scored one goal.
Paco Melo played two games with the Spanish national football team; he was called up in another five games.
