INFO:Christian Coste was born on February 23, 1949 in Saint-Christol (Hérault). He began his playing career in his native region, in Lunel (DH), Alès (D3) and Sète (D2). For the latter team, he scored 18 goals in 1972-73. In Gallia Club Lunel, he met Georges Peyroche. In December 1973, he insisted that Christian Coste be hired by the leaders of Lille OSC (of which he was the coach), which played in Division 2. Coste signed his first professional contract at the age of 25 and he explains that he “arrived late at the top level” since he had to go “through the classic amateur channels to climb the ladder."
With LOSC, Coste scored 23 goals and reached the D1 in 1974. Christian Coste was considered the main player in his first year. He suffered big competition with Raoul Noguès and the other South Americans of the team. The following year, Coste scored 16 goals. Thanks to his performance and his great efficiency at LOSC will make him join the French national team with which he will wear the jersey five times while scoring two goals. Nicknamed "Cow-Boy", he scored a goal for Blues in his first selection against Poland. A second will then follow against Belgium, during a match for the Euro 1976 qualifiers.
Coste remains in the Lille team which remains in Division 1 for two seasons. In January 1977, he suffered a knee injury which side-lined him from the field . LOSC ended up being relegated to Division 2 at the end of the 1976-1977 season. Coste leaves the club but considers that the Lille period was "the most pleasant period of his career at the sporting level.
Athletic and opportunist, mobile and hard hitting, his discovery of the French high level will earn him to become a striker of international class and very elegant to the point of scoring his dozen goals per season.
After having lived a good year with the Stade de Reims, he will join Laval where he will no longer be so skilful in front of the opposing goal to the point of going to complete his career in 1982 at Thonon in D2 and in Switzerland on the side of Chênois.
