INFO:
While known for his defensive play, he was a right full-back with an urge to go forward. Peter Reichel is definitely one of the most underestimated players of Frankfurt Eintracht in the golden 70s. Reichel was fast, tough and strong in a duel. Soon he was playing directly behind the big Grabowski, which definitely required a little more running work. Regardless, he marched boldly down the line, which wasn't very common at the time. Like in the DFB final in Hanover just before 1-0.

Peter Reichel started playing football in 1961 in the youth of VfB Gießen. At the latest after his appointment by the DFB in October and November 1969 to the German national youth football team for the international matches against the Netherlands and Denmark, he drew attention to his above-average talent for defensive play. He featured in four successful qualifiers for the 1970 UEFA youth tournament in Scotland against Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia and was part of Germany's squad for the youth tournament. In all three group games against Wales, Switzerland and the Netherlands he formed together with Hartmut Huhse the German defender pair. In total, the talent from Gießen played ten international matches for the DFB youth team.

Right -back Peter Reichel received a professional contract with Eintracht Frankfurt in 1970. He was on the first day of the new season, on August 15, 1970 in a home game against Hamburger SV, in the team coached by Erich Ribbeck and alongside goalkeeper Peter Kunter and fellow defenders Karl-Heinz Wirth, Friedel Lutz and Lothar Schämer, his debut in the Bundesliga and from then on was part of the regular formation in the Frankfurt back line. In 1974 and 1975 he was able to win the DFB Cup twice and played for Eintracht until his sports disability in 1979. Reichel experienced the most successful season with coach Dietrich Weise in 1974/75, when he was able to take third place in the Bundesliga and also managed to defend the cup. In addition to Bundesliga appearances, he made 34 appearances for Eintracht in the DFB Cup and 17 international appearances in the European Cup. In the 1975/76 European Cup Winners' Cup, after a 2-1 home win in March 1976, he lost 3-1 away in the semi-finals against West Ham United on 14 April 1976 .

National coach Helmut Schön twice called him up for the national team. On December 20, 1975 he came on as a substitute in the 74th minute of a friendly against Turkey for Bernard Dietz. The game was won 5-0 in Istanbul. He had his second mission on April 24, 1976 in the quarter-final first leg of the European Football Championship 1976 in Madrid against Spain. Here he was substituted on again for Bernard Dietz in the 83rd minute of the game. The game ended 1-1 and Germany qualified for the finals in Yugoslavia in the second leg. In the B national team Reichel brought it to seven international matches in 1976 and 1977.

After the game on August 12, 1978, Eintracht lost 4-0 at FC Schalke 04, he said goodbye to the Bundesliga, let himself be reamateurized and played until 1982 for the Eintracht amateurs in the Oberliga Hessen.
