INFO:
Started as a centre forward and left wing, he was moved and became a prominent defender who could cover all 4 positions in the back and the defensive midfield one. He had all the qualities for this - tall, tenacious, plays well with his head. And he became indispensable. Captain of the 2 Moscow clubs - Spartak and CSKA and also the National Team. He even participated in Garincha's farewell match...

At the end of 1968, he joined Spartak Moscow, with whom he made his professional debut on April 16, 1969. While he subsequently established himself as a starter during the first half of the 1970s and until 1975, he played 177 games during his time under the colours of Spartak and scored seven goals. He notably won the Soviet championship in 1969 as well as the national cup in 1971, a competition in which he was also a finalist in 1972 . His stint also saw him play ten games in all three European competitions, the most notable campaign being that of 1972–73 in which Spartak reached the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup .

Summoned up by the Soviet Army midway through the 1975 season (he played a game for the National Team and 3 days after he was sent to army all of a sudden), Olshansky then left Spartak to finish the year in third tier with SKA-Khabarovsk. He returned to the top flight in 1976, returning to Moscow in the colours of CSKA Moscow. He then remained four years at the club, playing 103 games for a single goal scored, before retiring at the end of 1979 at the age of 31.

Olshansky was called up for the first time in the Soviet selection by Oleksandr Ponomarov on August 6, 1972 in a friendly match against Sweden. He was a part of the Soviet delegation in the Summer Olympics, playing three encounters against Mexico, Denmark and West Germany while the Soviet Union ultimately clinches the bronze medal. He finally ended the year 1972 with a qualifying match for the 1974 World Cup against France. Despite Oleksandr Ponomarov 's subsequent departure, he continued to be called up regularly by his replacements Yevgeny Goriansky and then Konstantin Beskov throughout 1973 and 1974, as the Soviets failed to qualify for the 1974 World Cup. The passage of Valeri Lobanovski at the head of the selection between January 1975and July 1976 corresponds to a hole period for Olshansky who is then no longer selected. The arrival of Valentin Nikolaïev at the end of 1976 finally saw him return to the team, while Nikita Simonian continued to use him for a time during the beginning of 1977. He thus knew his last selection on April 24, 1977against Greece in a qualifying match for the 1978 World Cup , earning a total of 19 caps between 1972 and 1977.
