Slava was just the footballer who PLAYED, and did not just perform technical and tactical actions - one of the most technical players of the 70s in the Soviet Union. Master of dribbling and the last pass. Integral part of the 1972 Zarya Voroshilovhrad (Luhansk) championship winning team, Semёnov possessed a high dribble technique, accurate and intelligent passing, explosive starting speed and a choleric temperament. He uses both legs and has a fine curl to his passes. All this allowed him, as a midfielder, to create in attack, break open the enemy’s defense line, skilfully keep the ball at his feet until he accelerated to break into the free zone, penalty area or teammate for the final blow.
His elegant and highly technical game, when he boldly outplayed his opponent one-on-one, and often went through two or more opponents like a knife through butter, was remembered by Zarya fans. The more desperate and tougher the defenders played against Vyacheslav Semёnov, the more he tried to pass them in such a way that with a lightning-fast deceitful feint he would leave the opponent behind his back. His goals were not spectacular, but in terms of his ability to give the last pass, he was perhaps the most effective. Perhaps this manner - the seeming overexposure of the ball in the game - did not allow Semenov to gain a foothold in the "base" of Dynamo.
He came to Zarya from Dynamo Kyiv. Once Maslov invited the player and introduced him to the second secretary of the Lugansk regional party committee. Said, "The team is young, help them." The next day he was already in Luhansk. Walked the streets, swallowed dust and thought: "God, why did they send me here!" But he didn’t think and didn’t guess that it was from Lugansk that his path to the football Olympus would begin. According to the results of dispassionate football statistics, in just 7 seasons, the Zorya midfielder took part in 156 championship matches and the USSR Cup, scored 36 goals. And he remained in the memory of Luhansk fans as an unsurpassed master of the last pass.
In 1972 he played 11 matches and scored 4 goals for the USSR national team, including 5 games and 3 goals for the Olympic team. Bronze medallist of the 1972 Olympic Games.
