The most active midfielder, team ringleader. As a midfield player, he had not only the ability to play along with a partner and destroy the intention of opponents in defence, but also the qualities that allowed him to tirelessly manoeuvre on the field, while covering huge distances. At the moment when he had to directly fight for the ball, it suddenly turns out that Vasenin easily switches speeds, and does it unexpectedly for his opponents.
He started playing football in the city of Chernyakhovsk, then he played in the Kaliningrad Baltic. The skilled football player was soon noticed by the coaches of the major league of Soviet football. In 1972, as part of the Voroshilovgrad Zarya, Vasenin became the champion of the USSR. In the same year, he took third place in the list of 33 best players in the Union. He has 9 matches for the USSR national team.
On August 14, 1976, in the first match of the season in the match with Chernomorets, in the 70th minute of the meeting, Yuri Vasenin left the field. This was his last performance as part of Zarya.
