He was the son of famous Soviet football and ice hockey player Grigory Fedotov. Could be found everywhere in the offensive line, Fedotov often liked to get back to the middle to collect the ball or pass. Although he scored a lot, Fedotov really appreciated the passing game and tried to be a “combinator” from behind. Both in CSKA and the national team, he would have to fulfil the duties of the organizer of attacking actions. When there were four forwards, he played a little behind and at the same time scored a lot. But the greatest pleasure for him was playing the pass. When the teams began to play with three forwards, he ended up in the middle line. Vladimir was the engine of the team, its soul, a football player who gave all his best from the first to the last minute, fought for the ball on any part of the field, had enough physical strength and scoring abilities... At the age of 18 he was invited by Konstantin Beskov to CSKA. Beskov himself was removed at the end of the season, and Fedotov showed himself brightly in the first season - 10 goals in 12 matches. A bright and effective game allowed Vladimir to gain a foothold in the squad and become the leader of the team. Together with the team, he became the bronze medalist of the 1964 and 1965 championships. Fedotov secured victory for the CSKA team in the final match of the USSR-70 championship against Dynamo Moscow. By the 71st minute, Dynamo was leading 3:1, but it was Fedotov who first scored a goal from the 71st to the 84th minute, then earned a penalty (taken by Polikarpov), and then scored the winning goal - after hitting the ball ran into a bump in front of Dynamo goalkeeper Pilguy and flew into the goal. After the match, already at the Tashkent airport, an unknown Uzbek fan brought a handful of earth from that very “victorious” bump as a gift to Fedotov. His only professional club was CSKA (1960–1975, record of 382 matches and 92 goals in the Soviet Top League); Also he made 22 appearances for the Soviet Union national team between 1970 and 1975, scoring 4 goals.
