A racy, lucid and very effective attacker, Daniel Jeandupeux was an intelligent footballer. He was very interested in the tactical aspect of the game. His main quality was his starting speed power over 5 meters. Good dribbler, he fished in ball strikes. On the other hand, he suffered against physical teams and lacked stamina.

Beginning in La Chaux-de-fonds, Daniel Jeandupeux was crowned top scorer in the Swiss championship in 1974 (playing for FC Zürich), double Swiss champion in 1974 and 1975, winner of the cup in 1973 with FC Zürich. The echo of his excellent performances on the other side of the Alps had crossed the borders. Already in 1973, the leaders of Bordeaux had tried to bring him to Gironde. But faced with Zurich's demands, they temporarily abandoned the track. Also spotted by Bayern Munich and PSG, he was finally transferred to Bordeaux in July 1975. He adapted very quickly to the French championship. But his career was abruptly interrupted during a Bordeaux-Marseille match in October 1977, when he fractured his tibia.

He made his debut for the Swiss national team in 1969, and ended up being capped 35 times. He will score two goals with the selection, including one in a match against England on October 13, 1971.
